Alex’s Safe Harbour
A Special Place for Grief, Hope & Healing
Grief Support for Children, Teens and Families

Would you or someone you know be willing to give 3 hours of your time each week, to help a child, teen, family or adult at a time when they need it the most? Alex’s Safe Harbour provides family centered grief support in the Halifax Regional Municipality. We are presently seeking compassionate individuals who would like to help. We offer full training for group facilitators and there are also many other ways for you to help behind the scenes. Our free support groups have been made possible by the generous donations from private and corporate donations, the IWK Health Foundation, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, Arbor Memorial Foundation and the Community Health Boards. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact our Bereavement Coordinator, Trish Dominie at 902-448-8396 and visit our website www.alexssafeharbour.com.

The Laing House Masquerade Ball

Experience Hollywood with Laing House - October 26, 2013
You can be a part of a million dollar moment at the 7th annual Laing House Masquerade Ball, A Night in Hollywood!

Experience vintage 1950’s Hollywood, dance the night away and be a part of an event that has raised nearly a million dollars for youth living with mental illness. Our volunteer committee has planned a stellar evening full of extravagance, style, and sophistication. Ask anyone - it’s one of the premiere social events of the year in Halifax.  Paris was classic, Rio was vibrant, Greece was divine and now... Hollywood will be glamorous!

Now is the time to come together as a community and show support and awareness for mental health.  The Masquerade Ball supports Laing House programs that empower youth on their journey of recovery through friendship, education, creativity and healthy lifestyles.

So join us by purchasing a table or tickets. If you are not able to attend, please consider sponsoring a youth or making a donation.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, October 26, and thank you for your support!

Moving Forward Together - Metro Transit

Dear Community Partner,

As you may be aware, Metro Transit is currently developing a new Five Year Service Plan.

The Five Year Service Plan, entitled Moving Forward Together, is Metro Transit’s policy document for the development of our transit network over the next five years.
As part of our first round of public consultation for the plan, Metro Transit is asking some important questions to help us determine how the broader HRM community values transit, and how it should grow. We’re asking participants to look beyond day to day operational issues, and think about what the goals of Metro Transit should be for the next five years.

For more information on the planning process or on how to participate, visit our website at http://halifax.ca/movingforwardtogether/ and following the hyperlink to the public engagement portal. This site allows participants many different ways to provide input toward the development of the plan including an online forum and an online survey.  You can access this interactive environment by entering our website and following the hyperlink to the public engagement portal.

This is a great chance to have a real impact on how Metro Transit grows in the next five years, so please take a few minutes look at the site and give us your thoughts, as well as pass the link along to your networks. You can also use our Twitter handle #moving4ward on your Twitter accounts if you’d like to spread the word that way.

In addition to the website, we have six public meetings coming up next week.  The dates, times and locations are in the table below. Feel free to attend any session that fits your schedule.
