Neighbourhood Leadership Workshop

We're pleased to announce an exciting free training session on Tuesday January 21, 2014 from 1-5PM.
Planning & Design Centre is working with Jim Diers to deliver an afternoon workshop that is geared toward individuals working at the community level (neighbourhood associations, non-profits, community developers,NGOs, planners and others across the province. 


This interactive training session will cover various topics including: Building broad and inclusive community participation, identifying underutilized community strengths, role of neighborhood planning in community building, how community, NGOS and government can work together. 

 
Jim Diers is an internationally recognized leader on neighbourhood action and participatory democracy. Jim founded and directed the Department of Neighbourhoods in Seattle for 14 years, introducing transformative community programs such as the neighbourhood matching fund, neighbourhood planning, and the leading national community agriculture programs. Jim's work was recognized by the Ford Foundation and Kennedy School of Government as one of the most innovative local government programs in the United States. Jim is also author of Neighbor Power: Building Community the Seattle Way.

Planning & Design Centre is excited to invite you to a free public lecture on Tuesday January 21,2014 at 7PM at McCain Building at Dal. 

Jim Diers will provide a presentation sharing some of his experience on neighbourhood action from Seattle before a short panel discussion on the role of neighbourhoods and community action in building a resilient and healthy Halifax Regional Municipality.
