Heart and Stroke Walkabout Walkability Award

Heart and Stroke annouces the first inaugural Heart&Stroke WalkaboutTM Walkability Award! The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia Walkabout program is a comprehensive approach to getting more Nova Scotians walking more often.

The Heart&Stroke WalkaboutTM recognizes in order for people to feel safe and interested in walking that we must create walkable communities. We want to acknowledge those communities, schools, workplaces and public institutions that have taken steps to create improve the walkability of their communities.

What is walkable:
  • Benches
  • Well-marked Routes
  • Public Art
  • Connected Trails
  • Shaded
  • Connecting where we live, work and play
  • Accessible
  • Engaging sidewalks
  • Safe Staircases
  • Walking meetings
  • Connected to other transportation modes
  • Population density
  • Active transportation
You can nominate any community, school, workplace or public institution by downloading the nomination form at www.walkaboutns.ca/

 
Deadline for submissions is March 15th and award winners will be announced on April 4, 2011.
