Power of Being a Girl

Each year near the end of October, the YWCA hosts ‘Week Without Violence,’ a week-long series of community events promoting diverse approaches to creating a violence-free world. As part of this important initiative, the YWCA Halifax organizes Power of Being a Girl, an annual all-girls conference for youth ages 12-16. This year’s Power of Being a Girl event will take place on Friday, October 28thin a picturesque setting on the Eastern Shore (transportation from Halifax/Dartmouth provided). We will explore issues important to young women, inviting them to become facilitators of change. This will be a fun-filled event with food, dance, art, film making and interactive workshops, all day-long!
Here are the details:
What: Power of Being a Girl 2011
When: Friday, October 28th (PD day; no school) 8:00am-5:30pm
Where: The Deanery Project Cooperative in Lower Ship Harbour
Who: Open to girls or girl-identified youth between 12 and 16 years old.
  • The YWCA is chartering a school bus for the day. Free-of-charge transportation will be available from the YWCA (1233 Barrington Street) in Halifax at 8:00am and from the Black Cultural Centre (10 Cherry Brook Rd.) in Cherry Brook at 8:30 am. The bus will return to Cherry Brook at 5:00pm and to the YWCA at 5:30pm at the end of the day.
  • A poster and registration form are both attached to this email. Space is limited so register ASAP! We'd like to have all registrations received by Friday, October 21st.
