Stories of Hope Video Launch

The Halifax Community Health Board is pleased to host the launch of our new film on Wednesday, June 13, from 5:30-6:30. This event will be held at the Bethune Ball Room at Capital Health's Bethune Building (1276 South Park Street, Halifax). (View on map at http://www.cdha.nshealth.ca/find-us). Share in the stories of hope of Nova Scotians whose lives have been affected by addiction. You won't want to miss the first public screening of this moving and inspirational film. We're proud of the courageous citizens who shared their stories, representing a milestone step in the fight against addiction stigma in our province. In recognition of International Women's Day, let's talk about improving the lives of women affected by substance use and/or gambling.

Description: Women of Substance is a short film that invites the viewer to listen to bold, courageous women tell their personal stories. Together these stories highlight the influence of women’s roles in the journey to substance use, abuse and recovery. In another short film, Using Our Influence, experience the power of a community coming together to address women’s substance abuse, gambling, violence and abuse. Facilitated discussion following the film. Refreshments provided.

The Halifax Community Health Board presents: a free Addictions 101 workshop

Whether you are a community volunteer, service provider, concerned citizen or health professional, this workshop will help you respond to addiction needs in your community.

We’ll explore and discuss ...
• an overview of available programs and services
• substances and their effects
• the culture of alcohol use and related issues
• info session on fetal alcohol syndrome
• how to have a meaningful conversation about someone’s harmful involvement with drugs, alcohol and/or gambling
• how to support family members and others affected
