How physically active are we in the Halifax Regional Municipality? We’re looking to find out… Ipsos Reid to Survey HRM Residents on Physical Activity.
The marketing research firm Ipsos Reid will be conducting a municipal physical fitness survey for the HRM. The telephone survey will be conducted in February, 2011 and will canvass 300 HRM (150 males and 150 females) residents aged 18 years and older.
“The data we get from this survey will be very important in informing Stepping Up, Physical Activity Strategy for the Halifax Region.” Says Sarah MacKeigan, Project Lead for Stepping Up. “It will answer key questions around the community’s level of physical activity, satisfaction with current recreation offerings, barriers to physical activity participation and what services the municipality and its partners may be able provide to assist in making physical activity an easy choice, particularly for inactive people.”
Specific survey topics will also include:
• Regularity, type and duration of citizen’s physical activity.
• Motivation for participating/not participating in physical activity.
• Satisfaction with municipal recreation facilities, program, and services.
• Attitudes towards user fees for recreational programs and services.
• Level of children’s physical activity.
Responses are anonymous and individual results will not be used in any way.
The survey is sponsored in cooperation with the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness.
