Call for Nominations:Sheelagh Nolan Award and Certificates of Appreciation - Deadline November 16

Do you know an unsung hero in the life of a someone with autism? Would you like to say thank you to a person or group who has made things better for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder? It could be a teacher, an EPA, a dentist, a crossing guard, that special employee at your local grocery store . . . anyone who has gone the extra mile to really make a difference. We want to honour those people.


Every year, Autism Nova Scotia (formerly the Provincial Autism Centre) gives out awards to individuals and teams who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support people with autism spectrum disorders. I want to remind everyone that the deadline for 2011 award nominations is upon us. Please send in your nominations by November 16 to show your appreciation for an individual or group who has really made a difference.

The Sheelagh Nolan Award for Excellence in Teaching is given to the Teacher, Teacher Assistant or School Teaching Team who best demonstrates true excellence in their work with a student or students with autism.

Certificates of Appreciation are awarded to recognize achievement and dedication in support of children, teens and adults with autism by an individual or team in Nova Scotia in any aspect or area of support.

These awards are presented at a special ceremony at the Autism Nova Scotia during our annual Holiday Social, and they really do represent the sincere and meaningful thanks of families and the whole autism community in this province.

Are You or Someone You Know an Ambassador for Autism?

The Provincial Autism Centre is looking for nominees that are champions in the autism community who:

• Go above and beyond to create awareness for the cause
• Have worked tirelessly to make a difference – “the unsung hero”
• Have demonstrated leadership in the autism community by volunteering, fundraising, education, healthcare and/or research
 
Nominate a Champion Today

A nomination requires only a few moments of your time for life-long recognition.To nominate yourself or someone you know that is deserving of this prestigious award, all we need is:

• The name of the nominee and their contact information
• A brief description as to why the nominee should be considered for the Autism Green Jacket Award
• Your contact information as the nominator

The Autism Green Jacket Committee will contact the nominee and the nominator for additional information, as necessary. The 2011 recipient will be honoured during the Autism Green Jacket ceremony at the Autism Golf Ball event on October 15, 2011.
